12:22 pm - Is the U.N. biased against israel?

This should give away the answer. I quote Jonathan Kalfus:

On December 18, 2012, the 67th United Nations General Assembly strongly criticized Israel and adopted nine resolutions on Palestinian rights and the Golan. By the end of the week, 22 resolutions were adopted by the Assembly against Israel, with only four resolutions passed on the rest of the world.

Syria—a country plagued by a civil war against a ruthless dictatorship that has reportedly claimed the lives of over 50,000 people, half of which are civilians—received one of the four resolutions. Iran, governed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a man who denies the Holocaust, represses gay rights and constantly calls for the annihilation of Jews and the Jewish state, received one resolution. Iran is the largest state-sponsor of global terrorism.

The other two resolutions were given to North Korea and Burma, both dictatorships with consistent systematic human rights violations. Yet Israel, the only country in the Middle East that has true democracy, free speech, religious tolerance, gay rights and equal protection for all citizens of the State, was handed 22 resolutions.

The quote was from an article called "International Community Holds Israel to Unfair Double Standard".

11:43 am - Support Israel!
israel_support Eurasian Jewish congress (EAJС) is hosting an international campaign to support Jewish state “Support Israel! Say your word to the World!”
Today when there is an overwhelming agitation campaign that discredits Israel, when cynical provocative acts towards Jewish nation is being supported by state level, when thousands of people from different countries encourage anti-Israeli demonstrations, we say: “Israel, we are together!”
We want voices of those who love Israel to sound as one. We want that choir to sound out loud and confident. We appeal to take a part in this campaign, we call those who are as confirmed as we are: “You can live outside Israel, but you can’t live without Israel”.
In order to support Jewish state within the international campaign of EAJC, you can write just a couple of words about Israel: What Israel means to you, What you love Israel for and What do you like in this country. Share your thoughts and impressions.

GO TO http://israelsupport.ru/?lg=en and:

- Live a note in Twitter with hash-tag #israelsupport
- Add a note at the campaign website

We are sure that your couple of words will blend in millions of supportive words to Israel. We will gather them together and bring to people and the government of Jewish state and this will be a sign that living apart doesn't mean being apart!
There is also a photo contest within our campaign: “You can live outside Israel, but you can’t live without Israel”. Send your pictures or leave your links in Twitter. Best photos will become a part of the report about the campaign, which will be sent directly to Israel.
The main trophy of the contest — is a chance to take a part in a gala ceremony linked with the campaign’s completion.

Hi, I'm really interested in what people think about this question and I'd greatly appreciate your answer. Thank you.

In your opinion why did Osama Bin Laden attack the World Trade Centers?

P.S. This is for my own personal curiosity.

All answers will be screened.

11:59 am - Haifa, kontei, translation from Russian

...under the command of a ram.

The flock of rams under the command of a lion is much more efficient than the flock of lions under the command of a ram.

Instead of the epigraph :(

I have a feeling that it's time to leave this country. Or it's time to prosecute its government, speaking not only of the present one, but also of all MPs and ministers for the last 10 years minimum. Either this or that.

The whole history of the Lebanon conflict since the year 2000 up to now and the whole history of confrontation of Israel to Arabic terrorist organizations for the last 30 years has been going under the slogan "the flock of linons under the command of a ram".

The subject of our retreat from Lebanon - how we went out of it, losing our pants on the move, not even having concluded a peace treaty, not having received the official declaration that the state of Lebanon has no longer any territorial ambitions to the state of Israel, having abandoned its fortifications and allies, having opened easy access to its borders for the terrorist bands - was not once discussed. It was also much said about the facts how for six years we have permitted the band of terrorists to build fortifications along our border and to collect freely (for show!) the arsenal of missiles, how we let them abduct our soldiers and then sell us their corpses in return to their four hundred of quite alive and active terrorists who had been sitting in our prisons (after that these terrorists entusiastically started organizing new terrorist acts). This too has passed. But there's no harm to remind of it, in order to understand the present errors of Israel.

Our "lions" are now commanded, as were commanded, by"rams". As some agressive blogger has once written, "how good is our extraordinary security cabinet - the corrupted lawer as a chief executive and a trade union bonze as a minister of defense". And the Joint Stuff head gets into the hospital with heart-attack soon afterhis announcement that the cabinet of defense decided to spit upon recommendations and follow its own line. So the results are predictibleand they smell... no, not even mutton, but ram shit.

12:36 am - ACTION ALERT (yes, again!) - SF, Monday, July 17, at noon

Monday, July 17, at noon
Israeli Consulate
456 Montgomery St.
San Francisco

On Monday we'll face a really disgusting 'Jewish led' (!) anti-Israel rally, organized
by "Jewish Voice for Peace" and "Jews for Free Palestine".

Yes, it's too difficult to come to counter protests each and every week.
Yes, we have jobs and can't wave flags during the work hours.
BUT... in case you have time on Monday noon, even if you have just a few minutes, please come to the Israeli Consulate.
San Francisco residents (and media, of course)shouldn't be misled. They should know, that these so-called "peace fighters" (Israel haters) are a handful of far-left wing fringe, and do not represent the majority and the mainstream of our Jewish community.

We stand with Israel!

Sorry for this gigantic post. This is an MSN conversation between me and one of my closest friends of 6 years who i shall call "fool" for the purposes of this dialogue because of his views. You have to read it, but basically he says Israel targets civilians and is evil. This person is an Australian, Anglo-Saxon background, high-achiever in subjects like history and politics at University and a reasonable debater. This is whats disturbing, that he SHOULD know better but doesnt. This is what we are up against, educated people hating Israel for no good reason other than that they're told to. Oh and just to avoid confusion both of us are called James.

FOOL:whats worse than building a wall to cut off people from land to which they are legally entitled and inhibiting their civil liberties?

ME:i can think of something worse - blowing up their children in restaurants

FOOL:no its not
not when its recipricated!

ME:but I happen to believe that you can lose some civil liberties in return for protection
israel does not target civilians

FOOL:It's Israel James
and yes it does

ME:what drugs are you on at the moment
israel is RESTRAINED in the palestinian territories to AVOID civilian casualties

FOOL:jenin refugee camp
google it

ME:james the whole jenin thing is such a hoax
people quote about 500000000000 deaths to jenin and portray it as some sort of reverse holocaust, but in actual fact there were very few
noone even knows what happened!

FOOL:whatever the number
there were some
and they were civilians

ME:james israel as a nation has nothing to gain from killing civilians
and as such does not kill civilians on purpose

FOOL:but it does

ME:ermm james
jenin was 50 people and most were armed
it was not a massacre
and israel lost its own troops!!!!!
50 people

FOOL:you cant conifrm

ME:i'm currently reading about Legal action by families of dead soldiers who died because of israels restraint!!!

FOOL:confirm that

ME:52 people is the ACCEPTED death toll!!!!

FOOL:52 is different from 50

ME:the others are the lunatic palestinian sheikh ones, akin to saying "50000 jews didnt turn up to work on 9/11"

FOOL:oh well i was close wasnt i

ME:anyway most were armed!!!
the current intifada STARTED in jenin!!!!

FOOL:so they say

ME:So EVERYONE says james, enough of your ridiculous conspiracy theories

FOOL:surprise surprise!

ME:well... i can tell you who quoted that death toll
of 52…
the United Nations
and of the 52, "up to 22 may have been civilians"

I would appreciate it if any of you could give me some internet links or advice for how to educate this person...

12:27 am - Irshad Manji rocks my socks

Irshad Manji wrote an article in The National Post, a prominent Canadian newspaper. She landed an on-camera interview with the political leader of Islamic Jihad, Dr. Mohammed al-Hindi. (I can't find the National Post article online, but this is the article from her website, and the canada.com news transcript)

Yet his interpretation of the Koran betrayed something else. "Where," I asked, "does it say that you can kill yourself for a higher cause? As far as I know, the Koran tells us that suicide is wrong."

Through his translator, the physician assured me that the verses endorsing suicide bombings could be found "everywhere" in the Koran. I challenged him to show me only one passage.

After several minutes of scouring the Koran, then calling for help on his mobile phone, then perusing companion booklets, he told me he was too busy and must go.

"Are you sure you're not pulling a fast one on me?" I probed. He smirked, clearly understanding my North American English. "I want to know that you're telling me the truth."

Al-Hindi summoned two assistants to the office and made another phone call. His translator shifted uncomfortably, hanging his head as my camera swung to the aides. With their backs to me, they flipped feverishly through the Koran. Minutes later, a verse glorifying war was presented.

What it had to do with suicide, I could not say.

Thanks to minx17 for pointing this out for me.

5:23 am - Now Here's a Bad Question

I have two options for the first weekend of November...
1) Go to Bill Clinton's free lecture at the University of Minnesota
2) Go to an Israel Advocacy Conference in Madison (lectures for two days, music and concert at night)
My original plan was to go see Bill Clinton speak, until I found out about the conference. Now I don't know what to do, I want them both!
I feel like I'll have the opportunity to go to a conference like this in the future, but will never have the opportunity to be in the sam (BIG) room with Bill Clinton to hear him lecture. Although, rumor has it he's coming to promote Hillary...
What would you guys do!

current mood: confused
